Well, this site is usually Bob’s forum to put his thoughts to “paper”, but I will accept this topic as mostly my domain.. To that end, I would like to use this real estate to answer what are already proving to be the most common questions:
Q) When are you due?
A) August 3, 2007
Q) Are you having a boy or a girl?
A) As much as I would like to know so I could tell you, Bob really wants to be surprised when the time actually comes. Since I have bullied him in such large decisions as the make, model and color of the last 2 cars and almost every decorating decision in the house besides the basement, I figure I owe him one. Sorry guys, you will have to wait to find out too.
Q) Where are you registered?
A) BabiesRUs & Target seem to have everything we need.. and more!
Q) How do you feel?
A) The first trimester was pretty bumpy, but I feel pretty good now (at about 17 weeks now). I am actually the same weight I was at 5 weeks, so maybe there is hope of getting back into my pre-preggo clothes eventually.
Update @ 30 Weeks: I somehow still just appear “chubby” to people who didn’t know me before I got pregnant.. I have mixed feelings about this. At the rate we are going there is not much chance I will be having a 10 lb baby (::wipes brow::). Things are going well and the weeks are flying by.
Q) But what about Fattyburger?!?!
A) Yes, it’s true, I will be just about 4 weeks before my due date when the annual event rolls around. No, I will not lift any heavy objects (including watermelons) and no, Mark, I will not get off the couch to get you another beer! And would someone please turn up the air conditioner??? Some of the girls have introduced the notion of pre-baptizing the baby with beer, but that will be subject to my 3rd trimester mood swings. I am truely looking forward to having some dedicated girl time, so I am expecting a strong showing from the female side.
Honestly, Fattyburger will still go on as planned and everyone is welcome to stay for the weekend as usual. I am a little relieved that it is a month before and not a month after. By the next fest the little one will at least be able to hold up its head to see what crazy morons friends we have. I wish I would have time to teach him or her kickboxing by then, but hey, we will work within the generally accepted developmental milestones.
Q) Are you going to go back to work after the baby?
A) I think so. Let me qualify that, Bob is mortified that I will actually want to quit. Rightfully so, since we have waited 4 years to have a baby we have become accustomed to a certain… lifestyle. XM radio, $30 data plans on his cell phone, high speed Internet (well, I guess that’s a necessity - bad example) and $40K+ cars, etc. etc. It would be really hard to adjust to one income. I am trying to work out a 3-day week with my current employer but it is subject to a ton of red tape (I work for a German company, what do you expect?), our ability adjust our budget, and my ability to cope with life “after baby”.
Q) Have you picked out any names yet?
A) Not yet. We I have started looking, but the dad-to-be has a little reflecting on the subject to do yet. We still have a few months to wrestle with this one.
I am reserving veto power over such names as Shamus (sorry Bob, I am standing firm on this one), Fifi Trixiebelle (daughter of Paula Yates and Bob Geldof), Diva Muffin (daughter of Frank and Gail Zappa), Pilot Inspektor (sone of Jason Lee and Beth Reisgraf), Moxie CrimeFighter (daugher of Penn and Emily Jillette), and Moon Unit(another brain child of Frank and Gail Zappa).
Other Random Facts:
Room Color - Green walls, tan carpet & black furniture. All neutrals, since we don’t know.
Room Scheme - Classic Pooh & Honey Bees (Bob’s decision, I swear!)
Visitors - We will likely need most of August to adjust to our new addition, but September and October will likely be fair game for visits. I plan on going back to work starting in November, but by mid fall we should be able to travel again. I hear kids are portable, but they sure do have a LOT of luggage!!
